KeyShot is a great program for illumination and ray tracing, and can be used to create 3D renderings and animations. This program will run on quite minimal hardware, but performance scales linearly, meaning a high performance KeyShot workstation would be a great investment.

Surprisingly, these parts have a massive effect on the lifespan and performance optimisation of the CPU, GPU and RAM. We only use parts that guarantee excellent cooling, airflow, and power delivery.

This not only means dust will be a lot less of an issue, but it will be much easier to work with when you eventually need an upgrade. This will only happen several years down the line, of course. 3D Modeling & Design
CPU – Core Count
A KeyShot workstation will make use of all available CPU cores – more cores will lead to faster render times.
For this reason, we’d recommend opting for the CPU with the highest core count available within your budget. The core counts of CPUs these days is much higher than they had been in the past, with even the i5 and Ryzen 5 CPUs boasting 6 cores, but the prime choice would be an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X. This CPU features 16 cores, and we’ve seen some incredible performance results in every program we’ve tested it in.
CPU – Frequency
It’s always good to have a really fast CPU, but speed is not as important as cores for KeyShot. If you want the highest performance possible for KeyShot, we would definitely recommend sacrificing speed in order to get a CPU with an extremely high core count, like an Intel Xeon, or and AMD Threadripper.
With this in mind, our Modena Computers Hydra Workstation would be the optimal choice for this program.
KeyShot does feature a few tasks that are optimized for GPUs, such as generating effects, but this is not a priority. A GTX1650 would be a great choice for a KeyShot workstation. This GPU will ensure that the system has enough graphics processing power for KeyShot, as well any other program that the system may be used for.
RAM is another important consideration for this kind of system, as too little RAM would bottleneck the CPU. This means that your powerful CPUs would not be running at their full potential.
The ideal KeyShot computer would be one with as many cores and as much RAM as possible within the budget, and compromises can be made on the GPU to achieve this.
As we enter the 2020s, SSDs should be considered a necessity for the operating system and important files and programs. We only use super-fast NVMe SSDs, which are much faster than more common SATA drives, and even regular M.2 storage. This is our recommendation from a quality of life perspective as well.

Keep in mind that opting for higher performance right out of the gate offers much greater value than getting exactly what you need right now. A higher performance PC won’t need downtime to upgrade any time soon, and will also allow you to complete more work in less time. It could pay itself off a lot sooner than a more affordable option.
