Best Computer For ReCap

ReCap is used for point clouds, which can be quite heavy on your computer’s resources. For a dedicated ReCap workstation, we’d recommend some high performance components.

In this article, we’ll be talking about the components you need to build the best workstation PC for Autodesk ReCap.

Why choose us?

Parts like CPU cooler, Power Supply Unit, and chassis are often glossed over when putting together a system like this. Surprisingly, these parts have a massive effect on the lifespan and performance optimisation of the CPU, GPU and RAM. We only use parts that guarantee excellent cooling, airflow, and power delivery.

We’ve also got a lot of experience in putting these systems together, and our cable management is flawless. This not only means dust will be a lot less of an issue, but it will be much easier to work with when you eventually need an upgrade. This will only happen several years down the line, of course. Not to mention our cases just look fantastic.

Each Modena Computers Workstation is tailored to the personal needs of the user, but the features below would make for a great starting point for a computer for TensorFlow.

Need help choosing your ideal spec?

Please include as much information as possible regarding your requirements, including budget, programs used and any other information you think that might help us craft the perfect computer for you!

CPU – Core Count

A ReCap workstation would benefit greatly from a higher number of cores, but whether a greater core count or higher speed is more important depends on your particular workflow.

Some large workflows need a massive number of cores – more cores than are available in overclockable CPUs. In this case, you would want to go for an AMD Threadripper, or Intel’s X299 platform, or potentially a Xeon.

CPU – Frequency

We would recommend a high core count for any ReCap workstation, but this program does have a lot of single threaded processes that benefit from higher CPU frequencies rather than cores. If your workflow involves a lot of these processes, you might prefer an overclockable CPU with around 8 cores or more.

ReCap benefits from a strong graphics card to a certain extent, but this is not a priority. Depending on what other programs you plan on working on with your system, you would probably get the most value out of an RTX3060Ti.

ReCap projects can get quite large, and for this reason, we would recommend no less than 32GB RAM. You might even want to consider 64 to 128GB RAM for your ReCap workstation.

If you find that your workflow needs a high number of cores that would only be available from an HEDT CPUs from Intel and AMD, you would also open up the option to work with even more RAM.

If you’re interested in the kind of performance you can get out of a system like this, feel free to take a look at the blog post about a huge CFD build we worked on recently.

ReCap projects can also take up a lot of space on your disk, so we’d recommend pretty large drives.

You could get away with a 1TB SSD for all your active files and a large HDD for long term storage, but you would probably benefit from a 1920GB SSD from the start, adding in more storage later on when you need it.

For maximum speed, you should use an M.2 PCIe NVMe drive. These are much faster than standard 2.5” SATA SSDs.
